Jezírka na klíč / Service and cleaning
A pond requires two annual interventions and occasional assistance when something stops working. We clean, winterise, and repair ponds we have built as well as those built by others. Green water and dropping water levels almost always have a solution.

In spring, once the water warms above 10 degrees, we use a sludge pump to remove sediment from the bottom, trim dead plant parts, rinse the gravel bed and start up the equipment. For koi ponds, we check the tightness of the shafts, clean the drum filter and replace the UV lamp, which loses effectiveness after a year. This gives the pond a head start against algae, which would otherwise proliferate from nutrients released over winter.
We offer service as one-off interventions or regular maintenance, where we monitor the schedule ourselves. After each visit you will receive a short record of what was done and what to watch for.
Most common reasons why a pond turns green or smells: shallow bottom that overheats, soil instead of gravel in the planting zone, overstocked fish, missing skimmer, or a filter too small for the pond's volume. We will arrive, measure water parameters and design a modification that addresses the root cause. Chemical algaecides are always only a short-term crutch.
A falling water level does not automatically mean a hole in the liner. Often it is caused by capillary leakage through the soil-covered edge of the liner, a leaky connection at the skimmer, or simple evaporation on hot days, which can amount to up to 25 cm per season. We locate leaks by isolating circuits one by one, not by draining the pond.
A pond that is stagnant, has poor zones or is overgrown to the point of becoming a marsh can in most cases be rebuilt without new excavation. We drain the water, temporarily house the fish and plants, reshape the bottom, lay new foil on geotextile and install any missing equipment. The rebuild usually takes one to two weeks and the pond functions like new afterwards.
A healthy pond requires thorough silt removal once a year in spring and gravel bed cleaning every few years. During the season, maintenance involves minor tasks: leaves, algae, and water level. Koi ponds with drum filters clean themselves; only the UV lamp needs annual replacement.
Yes. Before any work begins, we inspect the pond, measure the water and report our findings and recommendations. With ponds built by others, we often encounter an unknown substrate composition, so the first visit is usually diagnostic.
No. The water in the pond remains; only the top layer freezes. Only equipment that would suffer from frost is removed, and for ponds with fish, an opening is maintained in the ice.
Yes, renovation allows changing depths and zones. An ornamental pond can be converted into a swimming pond if the plot allows an area of around 50 m2 or more. Smaller conversions are handled by adjusting the bottom under the existing liner; larger ones require a new liner.
Just a few details. We will contact you within 24 hours to discuss your expectations for the water feature and arrange a free survey.
